Photo of a man wearing a headlamp climbs on racks in a darkly lit warehouse of aging whiskey barrels | Kristina Krug Nashville photojournalist.
A worker at George Dickel Whisky Distillery climbs through racks of aging whiskey barrels in search of leaks. Barrels are stored in wooden racks or “ricks” which allow the barrels to rest on their sides. These ricks are stacked, with some as tall as three or more stories high. These whiskey warehouses or “barrel houses”, are referred to as “rickhouses” or “rackhouses”.
